Jeffrey Wiesner
Jeffrey Wiesner’s practice includes criminal and civil cases in federal and state court. His criminal cases include “white collar,” as well as the full panoply of other types of criminal charges. Recently, Mr. Wiesner has devoted a substantial part of his practice to defending clients accused of heath care fraud. Mr. Wiesner’s general approach to every case centers on the client. He believes that close communication with clients, and their participation in strategic decisions, is the key to success in court. “It is the client that knows all the facts about his or her case and often the client possess facts of the greatest value without even realizing it. Spending the time teasing those out can make all the difference.” Mr. Wiesner’s advocacy is characterized by a penchant for taking a fresh look and developing a new creative approach to difficult legal problems.
Mr. Wiesner graduated from Hobart College with a degree in philosophy and Northeastern University School of Law. During the course of his career, Mr. Wiesner has been involved in several significant cases. For example, he drafted the brief in a successful appeal to the Massachusetts Appeals Court in a high-profile case involving an unsolved murder of a doctor in Stoneham, MA. Because the individual the family believed to be the murderer was never prosecuted, the family attempted to obtain some modicum of justice through the civil process and sought to obtain all the materials related to the investigation of the case by the State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s office. The Appeals Court ruled the family was entitled to the materials, and in the first case of its kind in the country ordered the District Attorney’s office to turn them over to the victim’s family.
More recently, Mr. Wiesner has been involved in a challenge to the jury selection process in federal court, which consistently results in an under-representation of individuals of color on juries. The jury challenge lead to various proposed changes in the method of jury selection.
